Why a vinyl floor?

Domestic Vinyl floors are hard wearing, come in a very large range of colours and textures such a wood, stone, tiles, flat colours, metals and glass. They are easy to clean, last a long time and are economical.

What is vinyl floor made from?

Vinyl is a synthetic, man-made substance made from a special type of plastic called polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Vinyl flooring retains it's elasticity upon impact and gives a slight 'bounce' to a floor, making it a comfortable surface to walk on.

Is it the same as lino?

No, although they are often confused, linoleum is a floor covering made from linseed oil (linoxyn), pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, jute and limestone among other things. It is more environmentally friendly than vinyl as most of these materials are from renewable sources. It's waterproof, hard wearing and nice to walk on - and much more expensive than vinyl.

Vinyl or lino?

Basically, vinyl is cheaper to buy and 75% cheaper to fit. It deals with moisture better and won't expand and contract with temperature changes. For most domestic installations vinyl is probably the right choice but then Marmoleum or lino is a luxury product.
